چکیده

The NOAO Mosaic CCD Camera consists of 8 CCDs producing an 8K x 8K format. The Mosaic Data Handling System (MDHS) receives the data in real time as it is read out of the detector. A data feed client (DFC) receives data packets from the detector system and broadcasts them on a message bus. A data capture agent (DCA) receives the data and writes it to a distributed shared image (DSIM). The images are displayed as they are read out by a real-time display (RTD) and are recorded to disk as multi-extension format (MEF) FITS les by the DCA. The DCA triggers a data reduction agent (DRA) to do standard pipeline processing and archiving with a graphical user interface (GUI) for user interaction. The MDHS provides a suite of IRAF data reduction tools for the user and the DRA which are tailored for the MEF mosaic data. The tools provide capabilities for quick-look analysis of the data, basic CCD calibration, mosaic reconstruction, and combining of dithered observations into a fully populated (gaps removed) image.

WIYN to Operate the Kitt Peak 0.9-meter Telescope: NOAO Users to Gain Continuing Access to Mosaic

A panel of reviewers met last September to review proposals submitted to operate the Kitt Peak 0.9-m telescope. They found that the proposal submitted by the WIYN Consortium was superior in the opportunities it offered for scientific research and education, as well as in the management of refurbishment and operations. As of this writing, agreements with AURA and NSF are in the approval process....

Modeling the Galactic CV Distribution for the ChaMPlane Survey

For purposes of designing targeted cataclysmic variable (CV) detection surveys and interpreting results of other projects with many CV detections such as the ChaMPlane Survey, we have created a model of the CV distribution in the Galaxy. It is modeled as a warped, flared exponential disk with a gaussian vertical distribution. Extinction is based on a detailed Galactic dust and gas model. A lumi...

The MDM/Ohio State/ALADDIN Infrared Camera (MOSAIC)

The MDM/Ohio State/ALADDIN Infrared Camera (MOSAIC) is a general purpose near infrared (0.9-2.5 micron) imaging camera and medium-resolution (R=1300) long-slit spectrometer in use on the MDM 1.3-m and 2.4-m telescopes and the Kitt Peak 2.1-m and 4-m telescopes. In cooperation with NOAO and USNO, MOSAIC is one of the first general-purpose near-IR instruments available to the astronomical communi...
